The Sand Colored Jellyfish, Rhopilema asamushi. Imported from Japan.
Very little information available. Common name seams to refer to its creamy color. A roundish bell about 1" in dimater. No noticeable patterns or viens in the bell. Appears that there are no fringe tentacles but curiously a ring of short tentacles is obvious within the underside of the bell. The oral arms are thick and feathery and the tips seem to be inflatable. They appear as puffy spears or thin empty threads ( looks similar to the external lungs of a Nudibranch ).
So far they do not respond to freshly hatched baby brine shrimp or thawed mysis shrimp. I suspect they feed in a similar manner as do the Catostylus species jellyfish ( which no one seems to have yet figured out ).
Rhopilema asamushi will mostlikely sell for $100 to $150 each.
